Papa Gets Help
It's been a few weeks since I visited moms3teens, you see I've been working on a labor of love, Papa Gets Help, A Story of Hope for Children of Alcoholics, my first illustrated children's book. I'm happy to announce that tonight I received the final proofs for cover and interior and soon I'll be holding a copy in my hand.
Papa Gets Help is the story of Daniel, who begins to understand the concept of recovery when his father enters a treatment center. Having dealt with the many emotions associated with alcoholic families, Daniel begins the healing process by learning to cope with issues related to children of alcoholics. Papa gets Help is a valuable resource for children, parents, mental health professionals and treatment centers.
It helps children and families:
• deal with emotions such as loneliness, isolation and shame
• identify people who they can talk to
• identify coping skills
• break the cycle of dependency and/or co-dependence
• instill hope
• learn about the 7 Cs for Children of Alcoholics
• clarify AA’s 12-Steps
• provide parenting skills that strengthen relationships with children
In spite of my childhood experience of living in an alcoholic home, I always felt loved and nurtured. Today, as Father's Day approaches, I really miss my parents. How I wish they were here to celebrate with me. They would be so proud of me for the humble accomplishment of writing this story and working with this population.
Stay tuned for upcoming information about Papa Gets Help, A Story of Hope for Children of Alcoholics. I'm currently working on Promising Parenting, a parenting book for Adult Children of Alcoholics.
